- D&RGW "C-16" #316 circa the 1940's - ~ Updated 10-30-04 ~ |
#318 was P-B-L's very first "Factory Painted" model, arriving some time after
the
unpainted models later in 1984. The model you see pictured here was one of a
total of 25 produced in the 1930's configuration.
Constructed as road number #426 for the Florence & Cripple Creek in 1897 as Baldwin's production number #15246, she and her six siblings were a definite "step up" from the teapots of the Rio Grande. At least size-wise anyway. With 38" drivers and a boiler pressure of 160#, they could muster up 18,325# of tractive effort. The straight stack and formed domes gave them a "modern" appearance that belied their age. When the F&CC went under, in 1917, #316 went to the D&RG, becoming their road number 316. She lasted up until 1946, when she was dismantled.
#316 will return late in 2004, looking much like the model in this photo, but sporting much crisper details, finescale paint, and for the Foreground Models, typical P-B-L Crewmen. ( The guy you see in #316's cab is a bit oversized. ) Noteworthy locomotive-specific details visible in this photo include
NOTE: If you want to get one of these, or any others of these of the proposed, your best bet is to lock same in, which requires a deposit. Although we occasionally, in order to make a project "happen", have to "pad" the production numbers slightly higher, don't count on this happening in every case. We plan to construct these models based upon Firm Reservations, so if any over-runs do become available, figure them to be on a first-come-first-served basis.
