If this backdrop seems familiar to you, it's because we tend to use it a lot. You'd never guess it was one of our favorites, would you ? We took this and several other shots in "around the mid-1980's" on the highway west of Chama, between the Colorado border and Chromo, CO. The scenery that day could hardly have been better. The fall colors were at their peak, the sky had those gorgeous, clean air, white puffy high country clouds in it, the mountains had as yet to see snow. . . And wow ! The stuff dreams are made of ! What's not to like here? The Locomotive is, of course, one of our very latest K-27 Class Mikados, which Sir James ( Our own Jimmy Booth to the uninitiated. ) has given the FOREGROUND MODEL ® treatment to, just prior to its being sent out to its new owner. It's what we'd term a "Medium" weathering job. ( You can Click Here , or on the image above to view some of the other photos we shot of this model. ) As usual, creating these Foreground Models ® takes time. Not to mention TALENT. So said, their status is they're moving out of here at a slow but steady pace, and of course, being custom weathered to suit each new owner, no two weathering jobs end up exactly alike. But what a treat it is to be able to go out to the shop; set a model on my latest, ( Not to be confused with my GREATEST. ) "quick-built" scene stationed in front of an almost-brings-tears-to-yer-eyes backdrop and shoot a photo like this, then have to do little else than "drop in" some smoke and steam to give it some life and end up with a picture like this ! Funny thing about the mountains of Southern Colorado / Northern New Mexico. 'Far as I know, they are the only place on our earth where the colors are this dazzling; the mountains this majestic; and the sky this clear and blue; and the . . . . . . Well, you get the point. . .
But you're not here to "listen" to me reminisce. So on with the show! I've been
trying to shoot photos of some of the K-27's and K-28's as they're coming off of
Jimmy's workbench. The one's I've chronicled so far have a sort of LH 7/8's
front view and a RH 7/8's rear view, both of which you can access if you go to
the first photo of the model as shown below.
If fine modelwork winds yer crank, there'll be more photos yet to come. So drop back when time permits.
