Not everybody you'll talk with will realize that these Rotarys' were built to operate on Standard Gauge track. But turn one on its backside and you'll see "Broad Gauge Width" trucks, with their wheels "squooze in" to fit to fit the 3'-between-the-rails trackage we operate on.

Though not exactly a thing of beauty, and certainly not a lot of fun for the crews operating them, they were highly effective at what they were designed to do. The fact that the S.P. ( Now the U.P. ) keeps a pair of them at Truckee, near Donner Summit, through the winter months each year attests to the fact that they get the job done.
