This view shows those "Footboards" clearly. Note how these were filled in with sheet metal. Probably made switching a whole lot safer by keeping the brakemen from sliding through them during winter operations.

Note also how the Doghouse Door has all its interior bracing showing? And there's even a recess in it for the factory installed glazing !
