D&RGW K-27 #464
Circa the 1940's

- Updated: 4-27-03 -

With its' huge snowplow mounted, and showing the signs of much hard work, and judging from the cinders accumilated on the running boards and plow, less than optimum maintenance, our model of the #464 is truly a modelers delight! What else can be said?

In real life, number 464 was never a "fireman's delight"... She was what the railroad men referred to as a "soaker"... A somewhat unaffectionate term given to locomotives that lacked "superheater piping", thus requiring considerably more fuel (Read: Shoveling of Coal.) to make power.

Surprisingly though, # 464 is a survivor. After spending a bit of time down in L.A. at Knott's Berry Farm, where it did its' level best to straighten out their tight curves, it ended up in Michigan where it resides in restored condition and can be seen in operation on rare occasions during the summer months.
