IN CONCLUSION...

ANY OF THESE SHAYS COULD BE ORDERED FOR OPERATION ON EITHER "S" or "Sn3" TRACKAGE.

The prototypes for these three truckers were of modest size. Considered by LIMA as being 60 tonners, ( Class 60-3 ), eight locomotives were built off the same 'catalog' or 'erecting card' number: 428-C-5055. Three of these were constructed to operate on 3'-0" gauge track. Of these three, Swayne #6 was delivered in 1926 at a cost of $21,735.00. The New Mexico Lumber's Shay #7 was the last narrow gauge Shay that Lima built, being delivered in November of 1929, at a cost of $23,025.00 FOB Lima. As noted in the photo captions, this turned out to be beyond the NMLco's means so the shay was repossessed and sent to Seattle.

The other five were built for operation on standard gauge trackage. Our "Eagle Lakes Spruce Mills #2 and Klickatat Log and Lumber #5 will be examples of this. And of course, they can be ordered for Narrow Gauge operation too, just as they could from the LIMA Locomotive Works at the outset !

Click on any of the photos above to view a "Slide Show" of that locomotive / version. There is a descriptive caption beneath photo, and you can pause or exit the slideshow any time you choose.
